Map to Temiscaming

Heckuva weekend coming up. Bus leaves Warsaw at 11 am sharp Friday morning. We’ll stop for the Bridgenorth guys at 11:20, hit Fowler’s Corners at 11:30. be in Orillia for a pickup at 1 p.m. Pickup spot for the Barrie guys is the Tim Horton’s on 355 Memorial Avenue, just north of Highway 12. From Barrie take exi9t 131A, right onto 12, left (north) onto Memorial. Tim Horton’s is just in front of you. (Don’t go to the other Tim Horton’s further south, also on Memorial.)
We’ll leave Tim Horton’s at 1:15, travel North, stopping for a good supper along the way at about3:30 pm, hit North bay about 5:15 and Temiscaming about 6 - 6:30 p.m. Game time is 8 o’clock.

We’ll stay overnight in Temiscaming, sleep in til 11 or so, then breakfast Saturday morning, bus over to Espanola, have a light lunch, Game time is 7:30. Following the game we will stop at the Wenady’s/Tim Horton’s truck stop, then head South, arriving back in Warsaw about first light.

Sunday we meet the bus in Warsaw only at 4:30 pm, and go to Tweed, where we play Tamworth. Players should eat at 2 or 3 that afternoon. We’ll do Pizza on the ride home.

Monday we are home to the Rattlers, Warsaw arena at 7:30 pm.

Wednesday we practice in Douro, 3:30 - 5 pm, and Thursday, Feb 14th we are home to Deseronto , Warsaw arena at 7:30 pm.

There is still one other makeup game, yet to be scheduled by Tamworth.

Five games in seven days, with a lineup of 18 (Wemindji players are joining us at Temiscaming, don’t know about Joe Dotson, who would make it a playing roster of19 if he shows.) I like our chances to get the hair off Jim Dufesne’s face.

Playoffs will start right after the Feb. 17th season’s ending. No insight on who we will meet yet.

Wish us luck!

Wemindji comes to Douro

Justin Otter, Scott Atsynia and Nathan Otter at the Peterborough Petes game last week.

Justin and Nathan Otter and Scott Atsnia are hockey players with a northern passion and the special attitude that only close families in small towns can breed. They are skilled individuals who think team all the way.
Justin can play both forward and defense, and is a natural leader with a great sense of humor. Younger brother Nathan is a great puck cazrrier with a very good slap shot. He can man the back end or carry his game into the forward zone. Scott brings good corner work, smart positional play and a hunger to score to his game as a forward. He’s a natural leader and organizer, and will have a big impact on this team.
Wemindji is a small village east of James bay in Quebec. It’s an eighteen hour drive via Val’d'or and North bay, longer through Ottawa. Justin and Scott drove down with Scott’s father, Frank, a week ago, while the family flew Nathan to Val’d'or four days ago. We owe Doug Calberry a big thanks for picking Nathan up in a round trip oddysey that saw him leave Warsaw at 9 a.m. Sunday morning and not get back until 6:15 Monday morning. Please welcome the boys today. They are a long way from home, but they bring passion, great individuality and a strong sense of class to us. Glad to have them aboard.

Game update:

We played against Tamworth last night, losing 12 - 5 in a spirited game that saw us play well except for a five minute lapse in the second period when we gave up four goals.

Nathan Otter was an early sparkplug, scoring in both the first and second period. Single goals went to Chris Lane, Mike Wilkinson and Justin Otter. Wilkie and Nathan also had asists, while Justin and Joe Dotson each had two. Andrew Keogh and Terry Quirk also had assists. Scott Atsynia sat out with a bruised knee.

Our coach also made All-star team selections this week, choosing Nathan Otter, Gordie White and Tomas Kingston to represent the Dukes in the annual league All-star game to be held at 2 pm in Gravenhurst next Sunday, January 20th.

We’ve also signed Milbrook’s Scott McGregor, an 18 year old who can playa forward or defense. Scott brings the poise and strength that comes from being a working farmer. He’s looking forward to going to college next year.

We practice this week at Warsaw Monday, 4:30 to 6 pm, Wednesday at Douro arena, 3:30 to 5 pm, thena travel Saturday to Richmond Hill. Our next home game will be Satuday, Jan 26th at the Warsaw arena again.

See you there,
Stu
